Delmarva Power Making Deeper Impact Through Broad Community Partnerships and Support

NEWARK, Del. (April 20, 2023) — For Delmarva Power, powering our communities goes well beyond providing safe and reliable energy service. Last year alone, Delmarva Power contributed more than $1.2 million to local nonprofits, while its employees volunteered more than 14,700 hours to help hundreds of organizations throughout Delaware and Maryland. These contributions are part of the company's commitment to community impact and being a good corporate partner for the areas where the company serves and where its employees live and work.

For National Volunteer Month this April, Delmarva Power and its employees will continue these efforts, celebrating all month with events across Delaware and Maryland in support of local communities and organizations. These events further strengthen the company's commitment to power a cleaner and brighter future for its customers and communities.

"From employee volunteering and corporate philanthropy to energy assistance and workforce development, we are working to meet the needs of our communities and customers with a key focus on under-resourced areas of Delaware and Maryland," said Marisa Slaten, director of Corporate Community Impact for Pepco Holdings, which includes Delmarva Power. "We have more to do and will continue partnering with key organizations in the community to ensure we are fulfilling that commitment."

The interconnection of community outreach and engagement, corporate philanthropy and volunteerism, and economic development efforts is a key component of Delmarva Power's broad support for local communities. As examples of these initiatives, in 2022, Delmarva Power:

  • Partnered on several workforce development programs across Delaware and Maryland.
  • Joined with key stakeholders that are helping foster the future energy workforce through STEM programs with area middle and high schools and through partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), community colleges and other major anchor institutions and partners across Delaware and Maryland.
  • Supported local nonprofits and a municipality with funds to support open space preservation, improvements to parks and recreation resources, environmental conservation and innovative community resiliency projects.
  • Connected more than 20,000 customers with $49 million in energy assistance, supporting those that may be going through challenging times.

"Our dedicated employees of Delmarva Power are at the heart of our community impact," added Slaten. "The company's Powering Communities program helps connect employees with volunteer opportunities throughout Delmarva Power's service area and recognizes their efforts." In 2022, 511 employees volunteered a combined total of nearly 1,850 workdays through the program, helping support 183 different events.

Delmarva Power's community giving focuses on organizations that help provide equal access to arts and culture and that educate customers about the energy industry and science. Delmarva Power's community impact also includes organizations supporting community vibrancy, energy empowerment through sustainability, environmental and open space initiatives and those organizations that help foster the energy workforce of tomorrow.
