NEWARK, Del. (April 23, 2018) – Delmarva Power has been recognized once again by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year: Sustained Excellence Award. This is the 4th ENERGY STAR award the company has received for its efforts helping customers save money and energy and supporting the reduction of carbon emissions across its service area.
The Sustained Excellence designation is awarded to companies that continue to exhibit exceptional leadership year after year in the ENERGY STAR program while remaining dedicated to environmental protection through superior energy efficiency achievements.
"It is a great achievement for our company to once again be recognized by EPA for our efforts to deliver innovative programs that are helping our customers save money and energy," said Dave Velazquez, president and CEO of Pepco Holdings, which includes Delmarva Power. "We are pleased that our customers are continuing to see energy savings and taking important steps that are having positive impacts on our environment."
Delmarva Power's residential, commercial, and industrial energy efficiency programs have produced more than 570,373 megawatt-hours in energy savings since their inception in 2009. The savings are equivalent to eliminating more than 424,481 metric tons of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, removing 90,895 cars from the road or planting 11 million trees.
The ENERGY STAR award recognizes the success of Delmarva Power's energy efficiency programs, which are helping provide customers with more control over their energy usage and are saving customers money and energy. Delmarva Power, along with sister Exelon utilities BGE, ComEd, PECO and Pepco, were honored for their long-term commitment to energy efficiency at the EPA awards ceremony held in Washington, D.C. last week.
"The 2018 ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year have demonstrated real leadership, showing how American families and businesses can save energy, save money, and reduce air emissions," said Bill Wehrum, EPA assistant administrator for Air and Radiation.
