Delmarva Power Environmental Commitment Receives Major International Recognition

NEWARK, Del. (December 19, 2018) – Delmarva Power has earned major international recognition for its commitments and efforts to reduce the environmental impacts related to its business operations across Delaware and Maryland. This latest environmental achievement includes certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which recognizes companies across the world that have adopted environmentally responsible business practices.

Earlier this year, Delmarva Power and its sister companies, Atlantic City Electric in New Jersey and Pepco in the District of Columbia and Maryland, completed the implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS), a standard for promoting effective, systematic management of environmental risks and opportunities. For these efforts, the companies received ISO14001:2015 certification, recognizing their commitment to a continual cycle of planning, implementing, reviewing and improving the processes and actions undertaken to meet business and environmental goals.

"Our commitment to serving our customers and communities goes well beyond providing the safe and reliable energy service they count on," said Dave Velazquez, president and CEO of Pepco Holdings, which includes Delmarva Power. "We recognize that climate change is real and every day we are working to advance our operational performance, including implementing practices that can reduce our carbon footprint and provide a cleaner environment for generations to come."

Delmarva Power, Atlantic City Electric and Pepco join sister Exelon companies, BGE in Baltimore, ComEd in Illinois, and PECO in Philadelphia, which have received ISO14001:2015 certification.

Delmarva Power is an industry leader in charting a course to a low-carbon energy future and promoting the advancement of innovative technologies and policies that will decrease the company's carbon footprint. The company maintains an environmentally-friendly fleet of vehicles and has been recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the past four years with the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year: Sustained Excellence Award for its efforts helping customers save money and energy and supporting the reduction of carbon emissions across its service area.

Delmarva Power is continually exploring new ways to meet its customers' evolving energy needs, providing them with the services they need to lower their carbon footprint and save money. Through its Green Power Connection program, Delmarva Power has helped nearly 10,000 customers interconnect private solar PV systems into the local energy grid, while its community solar program in Maryland gives customers the ability to buy energy from local solar projects. The company's Peak Savings Days programs help customers collectively save millions of dollars annually by saving energy when demand for electricity is highest. And, for customers looking for electric transportation options, Delmarva Power is actively working to increase access to electric vehicles (EVs) across Delaware and Maryland through its proposals to expand EV charging options and provide reduced electric rates and other incentives to help customers buy, own, and operate EVs.
