NEWARK, Del. (March 16, 2018) – In celebration of Natural Gas Utility Workers' Day on March 18, 2018, Delmarva Power honors the employees who work tirelessly day in and day out to serve natural gas customers throughout northern Delaware. They respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on weekends and holidays, and in challenging conditions to keep the gas flowing for customers.
"Every day at Delmarva Power, we are committed to providing safe and reliable energy service for our customers and communities," said Bob Collacchi, Delmarva Power's director of regional gas operations. "We are truly appreciative and thankful for our natural gas employees who work year-round to modernize our infrastructure, enhance the safety and reliability of the local natural gas system, and expand service so even more people can take advantage of this clean and affordable energy option."
Delmarva Power's 132,000 gas customers continue to benefit from enhancements in the natural gas system. As part of its ongoing work to enhance the system's safety, the company runs a Pipeline Integrity Management Program to inspect natural gas mains, perform regular maintenance, and install or renew natural gas mains. The company's crews safely maintain 3,300 miles of natural gas pipelines in northern Delaware.
Natural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel and remains one of the most affordable home-heating fuels, making it one of the most desirable. Its popularity continues to grow and in 2017 Delmarva Power added more than 1,700 new customers who now use the company's safe, clean, efficient and affordable natural gas service.
This is the third year Natural Gas Utility Workers' Day is being celebrated across the country. This nationwide event is intended to build public awareness about the hard work done by the employees of natural gas utilities.
Delmarva Power joins the American Gas Association and natural gas utility companies across the nation, including Exelon sister utilities BGE in Baltimore and PECO in Philadelphia, in honoring natural gas workers.
