For Immediate Release
Since 2009, customers have saved more than $925 million on energy bills through Delmarva Power's energy efficiency programs
NEWARK, Del (May 5, 2022) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recognized Delmarva Power today for its efforts in helping customers save energy and reduce their impact on the environment. For the sixth year, Delmarva Power received the ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence Award, the highest level of recognition, for its
energy efficiency programs. Award recipients are part of a distinguished group that have made long-term commitments to fighting climate change and protecting public health through energy efficiency. "Our energy efficiency programs are helping to reduce energy use for our customers and are in turn having a positive impact on the environment and are helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change," said Morlon Bell-Izzard, senior vice president and chief customer officer for Pepco Holdings, which includes Delmarva Power. "Just as important, these programs are helping make energy service even more affordable for our customers during a time when cost of living is increasing and many of our communities are struggling. "Delmarva Power's energy efficiency programs offer a range of services and incentives to help families and businesses save money and energy. Since 2009, when Delmarva Power launched its energy efficiency programs in Maryland, the company has helped customers save more than $925 million on their energy bills. The programs also have helped customers save more than 830,000 megawatt-hours of electricity, which is the equivalent to reducing more than 396,500 tons of carbon emissions from the atmosphere, removing more than 77,000 cars from the road, planting more than 425,000 acres of trees, and powering more than 45,000 homes. Each year, the ENERGY STAR program honors a group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy achievements. ENERGY STAR award winners lead their industries in the production, sale and adoption of energy-efficiency products, homes, buildings, services and strategies. These efforts are essential to fighting the climate crisis and protecting public health. The EPA presents the Sustained Excellence Award to partners that already received ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year recognition for a minimum of two consecutive years and have gone above and beyond the criteria needed to qualify for recognition. "We know it's going to take all of us working together to tackle the climate crisis, and the 2022 ENERGY STAR award-winning partners are demonstrating what it takes to build a more sustainable future," said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. "These companies are showing once again that taking action in support of a clean energy economy can be good not only for the environment, but also for business and customers. "Winners are selected from a network of thousands of ENERGY STAR partners. For a complete list of 2022 winners and more information about ENERGY STAR's awards program, visit
