NEWARK, Delaware (Aug. 29, 2017) - Delmarva Power residential natural gas customers would see an increase of $4.40, or 4.9 percent, on their typical winter monthly bills beginning Nov. 1 under a Gas Cost Rate (GCR) adjustment filed today with the Delaware Public Service Commission (PSC).
The GCR is a dollar-for-dollar pass-through to customers for the natural gas Delmarva Power buys on their behalf, which means that Delmarva is permitted to recover its costs for buying the natural gas for its customers but does not earn a profit on the sale. The PSC oversees Delmarva Power's purchase of natural gas.
Overall, a typical residential space heating customer's winter monthly bill would go from $90.32 to $94.72 due to a change in gas supply rates to reflect the changing cost of procuring and transporting natural gas to the region for customers. The winter months are generally considered to be November through March.
