Delmarva Power Mobilizes Comprehensive, Strategic Response to Winter Storm Stella to Restore Power

NEWARK, Del. (March 14, 2017) - Delmarva Power (DPL) has launched its response plan in the wake of Winter Storm Stella to restore power as quickly as possible to our customers.

Delmarva Power crews are actively assessing storm damage across the system, allowing DPL to strategically target restoration efforts.  In addition to approximately 120 internal linemen, DPL has an additional 140 overhead line contractors and tree trimming personnel assisting in the restoration effort as well as 200 linemen travelling to DPL from ComEd in Chicago.

"Our first priority is the safety of our customers and crews. We urge customers to stay clear of wires hanging loose from poles or lying on the ground," said Gary R. Stockbridge, Delmarva Power Regional President. "We've launched our restoration fleets into the affected communities and they will work around the clock until everyone's power is restored."

In Delmarva Power's service area, Winter Storm Stella is delivering extreme weather activity including high winds, rain and sleet. As of 12:00 P.M., approximately 52,000 Delmarva Power Electric customers were without power. Currently, two electric transmission lines are out.

A preliminary damage assessment process must be completed before an estimated restoration time can be generated.  As conditions permit, crews will work around the clock until service is restored to all affected customers.

Customers' outage reports are vital to Delmarva Power's restoration efforts. Customers are asked to report outages at or by calling 1-800-898-8042 and following the prompts on the automated system. If reporting an emergency or another life-threatening situation such as downed wires, customers should immediately call 1-800-375-7117 and follow the appropriate prompts. Multiple call center sites have been staffed to support customer service efforts and our systems have been networked together for expanded capacity.

Delmarva Power also recommends, when reporting an outage, customers request a call back. Call backs allow the company to notify customers when work in their area is completed and they also help Delmarva Power locate outages that may be specific to customers' homes.
