Repair Work Necessitates Service Interruption in Portion of Talbot County, Md.

ST. MICHAELS, Md.  - Delmarva Power crews will de-energize the company's Bozman substation near St. Michaels, Md., for two to three hours, starting at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, in order to make repairs to a transmission line. This will result in a power outage for Delmarva Power customers in McDaniel, Wittman, Sherwood and on Tilghman Island, as well as Choptank Electric Cooperative customers in St. Michaels and Royal Oak.

"We apologize for any inconvenience while repair work is under way," said John Allen, Delmarva Power region vice president. "We will restore power to the affected customers as quickly and as safely as possible."

Some tips for the public to prepare for the outage:

Assemble an emergency kit, including:

  • Have a telephone with a cord or a cell phone to use as a backup. Cordless telephones require electricity to operate and won't work if there is an outage.
  • Protect electronic equipment. Unplug sensitive electronics or plug computers and other sensitive equipment into surge suppressors and consider an uninterruptible power supply for temporary battery backup power.
  • Turn off power to flood-prone basement appliances if it is safe to do so. However, if using an electrically operated sump pump, the customer should not turn off the power.
  • Have adequate prescription medicines or infant supplies on hand.
