Delmarva Power this
afternoon disconnected power to a portion of Ocean City, Md., south of North
Division Street and Baltimore Avenue, due to storm surge flooding that has
submerged some of the utility's electrical infrastructure. The service
interruption which affects 635 customers will remain in effect until it is safe
to re-energize the equipment.
In order to ensure the
safety of customers and emergency service personnel, Delmarva Power may need to
de-energize the facilities of other coastal communities in Maryland and
Delaware should flooding occur. Service restoration will be dependent on how
quickly water recedes from affected areas. Customers should be prepared to be
out of service until it is safe to re-energize the equipment.
