Delmarva Power Nearing Full Restoration: Power Back for 99% of Customers

NEWARK, Del. - Delmarva Power is nearing full restoration of power to customers who lost electrical service in the wake of the Tuesday June 23, 2015, summer storm.  At the height of the storm, approximately 76,000 customers in Delaware and Maryland lost power. At this time, approximately 99% of customers have been restored. For the restoration effort, Delmarva Power mobilized approximately 600 internal and external resources.

The Company has dispatched crews throughout its service territory and is now focused on restoring those remaining customers in localized outage areas.  The remaining outages affect individual customers.

"We are hard at work tackling these very localized outages and restoring power to the remaining customers without electricity," said Gary Stockbridge, Delmarva Power Region President. "We will not be satisfied until every customer affected by Tuesday's storm is restored."   

Delmarva Power appreciates customers' patience and cautions that new outages may occur as tree limbs continue to fall and disrupt service, and crews switch main power lines off and on to allow them to work safely. The Company is continuing to monitor the weather forecast and is prepared to restore potential outages.

Delmarva Power expects to restore service to all of its customers impacted by the summer storm event by midnight tonight, Friday, June 26th; however, most of the remaining customers without power will have their service restored before that time.

The company urges customers to remain in contact with our customer call centers.  By responding to call-backs and reporting lingering outages, customers play an integral role in the company's ability to identify persistent, localized outages. During this storm, Delmarva Power has received approximately 81,000 customer calls since Tuesday, June 23, 2015 and Call Center personnel have answered 92.67% percent of the calls within 30 seconds.

Delmarva Power Emphasizes Safety

Safety is paramount for Delmarva Power's customers and employees. The company urges the public to stay alert, as conditions will remain hazardous.  It is critical to stay clear of downed wires and report them by calling 1-800-898-8042 and following the voice prompts.  Other important safety recommendations include:

  • Avoid crews working in the street. This will keep you and the crews safe, and allow them to work on restoring your power.
  • If you are using a portable generator, please make sure it is installed properly and according to the manufacturer's instructions. Here are some generator safety tips to keep in mind:
  • If you use life-support equipment that requires electricity to operate and you have lost power, Delmarva Power urges you to seek alternative accommodations at a location with emergency power capabilities as restoration efforts could take several days.
  • Protect food and refrigerated medicine with regular ice in an insulated cooler. Foods will stay frozen for 36 to 48 hours in a fully loaded freezer if the door remains closed.
