Delmarva Power Asks Customers to Conserve Natural Gas

NEWARK, Del. - In anticipation of the extreme cold weather throughout the Mid-Atlantic into this weekend, Delmarva Power is asking our customers to conserve natural gas. The impending cold weather will increase the demand of natural gas.  Although the gas supply in the region is expected to be sufficient to meet anticipated demand, customers are encouraged to conserve.

The following are some natural gas conservation tips for all customers:

  • If you heat with natural gas and your health permits, lower your thermostat a few degrees
  • If you have a gas water heater, please reduce your use of hot water.
  • Limit the use of your dishwasher or clothes washer.
  • If you have south-facing windows, let the sun warm rooms during the day; at night, close shades or curtains to keep warmth in
  • Limit use of gas fireplaces
  • Make sure that air vents are not blocked
  • Identify and repair leaky or disconnected ducts
  • Direct the building's vents so they're blowing warm air across the floor. Warm air rises.

Natural gas emergencies in New Castle County can be reported to: 1-302-454-0317.
