Delmarva Power to Enhance Reliability with Transmission Upgrade Project

New High-Voltage Line Planned for Glasgow to Cecil

NEWARK, Del. - Delmarva Power will host a community meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Singerly Fire Hall, located at 300 Newark Ave, Elkton, MD 21922, to provide information about the utility's proposal to rebuild a high-voltage transmission line between Glasgow, DE and Cecil, MD. The meeting will offer the public the opportunity to ask questions about the $5.7 million project which is designed to enhance electric service reliability for customers in New Castle and Cecil counties.

The existing 138,000 kV, single, overhead transmission line, which is currently on H-frame wooden structures will be rebuilt as an 138,000kV, overhead transmission line on more durable, single steel poles. Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2014 with completion by May 2015.

Delmarva Power will coordinate the project with other utilities, local municipalities and the Maryland State Highway Administrations to minimize disruption during construction. Most of the work will be done within the right-of-way.

"Engineering studies indicate that the new transmission line will help avoid extended power outages, should there be a major problem with the transmission and generation infrastructure," said Gary Stockbridge, Delmarva Power Region President. "This project is one of several similar transmission upgrade projects planned for the company's service area over the next several years, all of which demonstrate Delmarva Power's commitment to continue to provide safe and reliable electric service for our customers."
