Delmarva Power Awards $10,000 in Grants to Teachers

Grants Support Energy- and Environmental-related School Projects

- Delmarva Power recently awarded $10,000 to teachers from 16 schools in Maryland and Delaware to spend on energy- and environmental-related lessons.

Grants of up to $500 were given to support projects that enhance students' education about such topics as energy conservation, renewable energy and environmental awareness. The money will be used to buy materials, conduct special lessons and implement projects that usually are not supported by school funding.

"These teachers are to be commended for coming up with ways to provide new academic challenges for their students," said John Allen, Delmarva Power Region Vice President. "During these tough economic times, we are pleased to be able to continue to offer our monetary support for worthwhile educational projects."

Teachers in Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware and 10 counties in Maryland were eligible to apply for the grants. Delmarva Power has awarded more than $227,000 in grant money to area schools for energy- and environmental-related projects over the last 23 years.
