Wilmington, DE November 1, 2012- The American Red Cross Delmarva Region is proud to announce Delmarva Power's generous $20,000 gift in support of Red Cross Disaster Relief.
"Delmarva Power is a longtime partner with the local Red Cross especially in times of disaster and response," said Patrick Delaney, Regional Executive, American Red Cross Delmarva Region. "From inviting the Red Cross to join their media tours and press conferences to their generous financial support, Delmarva Power truly embodies the spirit of a community partner. Together, the Red Cross and Delmarva Power are ensuring the Delmarva Peninsula is a resilient community."
"Delmarva Power and the Pepco Holdings family is proud to support and partner with the Red Cross in our company's continuous effort to assist disaster survivors and the Delmarva Region," said Gary Stockbridge, President of Delmarva Power.
On an annual basis, Delmarva Power contributes to local non-profit charitable organizations throughout the community. The Red Cross has served as an active partner with Delmarva Power during recent severe storms such as the Summer 2012 Derecho and Hurricane Sandy. This gift represents a portion of an $80,000.00 gift that, Pepco Holdings, Delmarva Power's parent company is bestowing upon The American Red Cross across all company regions.
"The hard work, dedication, kindness and constant comfort provided to those in need make the Red Cross such an invaluable member of our entire community. We are honored to help them continue their mission," Stockbridge added.
Thanks to support from partners like Delmarva Power, the Red Cross is able to serve the community. This generosity allows the Red Cross to provide immediate emergency assistance in times of disasters such as Hurricane Sandy. At the local level, the American Red Cross Delmarva Region supported 25 shelters, housing 1,878 people during the peak of the storm on Monday night. In addition, a total of 10,678 meals and snacks were served from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday. The Red Cross response efforts are ongoing as damage assessment from the storm begins. Red Cross disaster relief work will continue to support our friends and neighbors who may be unable to return home as well as hand out clean up kits for those who are allowed to return home. This generous gift from Delmarva Power will help the Red Cross continue to answer the call in times of need.
About the American Red Cross
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization - not a government agency - and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
