Community Meeting Scheduled for Transmission Line Project

Rebuilt Line and New Line to Support Reliability
MIDDLETOWN, Del.
-- Delmarva Power will hold a community meeting from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12 at the Volunteer Hose Company's Middletown Memorial Hall, 27 West Green Street, in Middletown, Del., to provide information about the utility's project to enhance electric service reliability in the Middletown and Glasgow areas. The work includes two projects that will take place simultaneously along the existing transmission line corridor that runs from the company's Mt. Pleasant substation on Choptank Road, along the Maryland/Delaware border, across the C & D Canal, and then to the Glasgow substation on Pleasant Valley Road.
Most of the work will involve replacing an existing transmission line made of double-wooden pole, "H" frame style construction. It will be replaced with two taller, single, steel pole lines. The new steel poles will be 110 to 130 feet high, depending on their location. One set of the new steel poles will replace the existing transmission line and the other set will be used for a new transmission line. The new transmission lines will have the same voltage - 138,000 volts - as the line that will be replaced.
"These projects will enable us to meet new compliance standards for safe, reliable transmission lines," said Glenn Moore, Regional Vice President, Delmarva Power. "All of the work will take place on property that has served as a major transmission corridor for the past 56 years."
Preparation and pre-construction work has begun with project completion targeted for May 2013.
