Focus on helping income-eligible families better manage winter heating bills
DOVER, Del. - With many customers struggling to pay their monthly energy bill, Delmarva Power and its sister utility Pepco hosted a daylong summit Wednesday aimed at finding solutions to help low-income households better afford this winter's heating bills.
"Approximately 10 percent of our residential customers in Delaware are on a deferred payment plan, meaning we've arranged for them to stretch their payments because they're struggling to pay the monthly energy bill," said Glenn Moore, Vice President, Delmarva Power Region. "We've got to work together to find ways to help those in need, and this annual summit is about doing just that."
This year's annual Low-Income Energy Assistance Summit hosted more than 150 social service agency representatives from Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, D.C. at the Sheraton Dover Hotel in Delaware.
The summit gives service providers valuable information and tools to better assist low-income households, many of whom have difficulty paying their energy bills.
The summit included workshops, exhibits and presentations from advocates at the local, state and national levels. This year's keynote speaker was George Coling of the National Fuel Funds Network, an advocacy group for increasing funding to assist income-eligible households with their energy bills.
