Delmarva Power Launches Smart Meter Education Campaign

New online resource provides customers with more personal energy data

NEWARK , Del. - With the switch to "smart" electric meters nearly complete in Delaware, Delmarva Power launched a statewide education campaign today for educating its customers on the new technology and its capability for helping them Take Control of their personal energy use.

The statewide public education campaign - themed Take Control - will help customers learn more about smart meters and realize the benefits the new technology offers. Customers can learn more at This easy-to-use website is a one-stop resource to answer customers' questions and guide them through enhanced features soon to be available via the company's My Account online tool.

"This new technology holds great potential for our customers and we believe the website is a great way for them to get ready to learn about it," said Gary Stockbridge, President, Delmarva Power Region. "These smart meters eventually will allow Delmarva Power's Delaware customers to access detailed energy use information so they can better understand and, ultimately, better manage their energy consumption."

In addition to the information on electric smart meters, the website provides energy savings information and tips to help customers reduce their energy use in their homes and small businesses.

As part of the statewide campaign, Delmarva Power will expand its outreach efforts by increasing its participation in community events, interacting directly with its customers, distributing informational materials and answering customers' questions about the smart meter initiative and program benefits.

A key focus for the campaign is encouraging Delaware customers to sign up for My Account, the utility's free online energy audit tool. When customers register and answer a few simple questions, the site creates a personalized energy profile and helps them learn how to Take Control of their energy use.

"Together, My Account and smart meters will provide customers with a variety of benefits including more customized, detailed energy use information, as well as the ability for customer service specialists to respond quickly and thoroughly to individual customer concerns," Stockbridge said.
