Money Goes Toward Summer Program for Area Children
CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Delmarva Power recently contributed $2,000 for scholarships to give Delmarva Peninsula children an opportunity to enjoy the environmental science education program at the Horn Point Laboratory in Cambridge, Md., this summer.
"We realize that many families are dealing with the financial challenge of trying to afford the cost of environmental science education activities for their children, so we hope that our scholarship donation will encourage families to take advantage of Horn Point's exceptional program," said John Allen, Delmarva Power Vice President.
The Kids' Bay Adventures summer program consists of six, one-week sessions on different environmental topics from June 13 through July 15. Children are given the opportunity to have fun in the outdoors, while learning about science in their own backyard. Craft projects, games and other activities are included as part of the educational experience.
"Delmarva Power's generosity makes this summer's program accessible to more families and also to families who want to send more than one child to participate," said Donna Stotts, Horn Point Kids' Bay Adventures program coordinator.
This year Horn Point will offer a day-long program designed for young children entering both pre-kindergarten and kindergarten in the fall. A Sense of Wonder, based on the book by Rachel Carson, will provide developmentally-appropriate activities for budding naturalists.
Programs for first through fourth grade students include Exploring Nature, Choptank Discoveries, Wetland Wonders, and Junior Naturalist.
Down to Earth Fine Arts ~ Creative Ecology is designed for fifth through eighth graders. Students will combine music, art and drama to share their creative talents, using the outdoor classroom as their inspiration. An art exhibit and creative presentation will be open to all of the Kids' Bay Adventures families at the end of the week. Also available for this age group is the very popular Canoeing and Outdoor Adventures.
