Laboratory Testing Ensures that Equipment Complies with Contract
WILMINGTON, Del. - Testing during the weekend confirmed that gas communications devices installed on customers' natural gas meters meet Delmarva Power's stringent contract standards.
Results of independent laboratory testing will enable the installation process to resume after the company had temporarily halted installations and began removing the devices during the testing process.
Delmarva Power began removing devices from some customers' natural gas meters after learning that a change in the manufacturing process required the product to be recertified to meet the terms of the purchase agreement with Delmarva Power.
Recertification of these units was a matter of contract compliance and quality control. The utility maintains stringent standards in purchasing equipment and requires vendors to meet those standards.
These communications devices have been installed on natural gas meters for about 21,000 of Delmarva Power's 123,000 natural gas customers, all of whom are in New Castle County, Delaware.
