Reforestation Project Adds 500 Trees Adjacent to Red Lion Substation
NEWARK, Del. - Delmarva Power in partnership with the environmental education nonprofit ERTHNXT and the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council recently planted 500 native potted seedling trees on land owned by the power company near its Red Lion substation.
The volunteer reforestation project, funded in part by both Delmarva Power and ERTHNXT, included the following native tree seedlings: River Birch, Swamp White Oak, Hackberry, American Sycamore, Silver Maple .
"Delmarva Power has long-recognized how vital trees are to our communities. For example, trees help us conserve energy and keep the air clean," said Glenn Moore, Vice President, Delmarva Power Region. "I'm glad we could work with ERTHNXT and the Girl Scouts to add 500 more trees to our community landscape."
Amanda Benner, ERTHNXT Program Director, said: "Tree plantings are a great way to let kids get their hands in the dirt and connect with nature. Taking action helps reinforce the interconnectedness of people and plants and wildlife and builds stewardship for our shared environment."
Janet Berry, Sr. Vice President, Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council Inc., said: "Through this tree-planting project, our local Girl Scouts are taking action to make Delaware a better place, and they're doing it in partnership with good environmental stewards - Delmarva Power and ERTHNXT."
