Delmarva Power Offers Solicitation Safety Tips

Many electric consumers have choice, company says

WILMINGTON, Del. - Delmarva Power is reminding homeowners and business owners to practice safety when someone claiming to represent the company contacts them either in person or by telephone.

Many companies, including Delmarva Power, will contact customers in person or on the phone for various reasons and it is important that customers take precautions to verify the person contacting them is affiliated with the company.

"Sometimes we find that other electric suppliers will use Delmarva Power's name to get the consumer interested," said Delmarva Power region Vice President Glenn Moore. "We just want people to be aware of this marketing tactic, and we urge them to ask the questions necessary to verify exactly who and what company are contacting them."

Moore said that a Delmarva Power representative will often be traveling in a marked Delmarva Power vehicle and should always have his or her identification card, featuring the company logo and a photo of the employee, in plain view.

All Delmarva Power representatives making outbound calls will have access to customer account information and will be willing to give you their name and the account information you request. Furthermore, Delmarva Power representatives will not insist that a credit card be used for payment.

If you have any doubt about the validity of a person's claim to represent Delmarva Power, please call the company immediately at 1-800-375-7117 and a company representative will be able to verify the contact made.

Delmarva Power, a public utility owned by Pepco Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: POM), provides safe and reliable energy to nearly 500,000 electric delivery customers in Delaware and Maryland and over 121,000 natural gas delivery customers in northern Delaware .
