WILMINGTON , Del. - This winter heating season, Delmarva Power customers are encouraged to support a family in need of warmth by making a donation to the Good Neighbor Energy Fund.
The annual drive for supporting the fund, which helps income-eligible families pay their heating bills, kicked off this month with pre-addressed envelopes included in Delmarva Power customers' bills. Contributions are tax-deductible and matched by Delmarva Power, giving one dollar for every three dollars donated.
Delmarva Power founded the fund more than 25 years ago. Through the years, the fund has raised more than $5 million and has helped more than 60,000 families in Delaware and Maryland with their energy bills.
The Good Neighbor Energy Fund is administered by the Salvation Army.
"Many families struggle to pay their energy bills, particularly when the weather is extremely cold for an extended period of time," said Delmarva Power regional Vice President Glenn Moore. "That's why this partnership among us, our customers and the Salvation Army is an important one for helping those in need."
To apply for energy assistance from the Good Neighbor Energy Fund, customers should contact their local Salvation Army Office, which receives both personal and corporate contributions made to the fund.
Delmarva Power, a public utility owned by Pepco Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: POM), provides safe and reliable energy to nearly 500,000 electric delivery customers in Delaware and Maryland and over 121,000 natural gas delivery customers in northern Delaware .
