Good time to prepare for emergencies as storms threaten region
NEWARK, Del. - With the onset of the peak Atlantic hurricane season and September's designation as National Preparedness Month, Delmarva Power today advised customers to plan ahead for emergencies and avoid last-minute scrambling.
"This is a good time to be prepared," said Vice President Mike Maxwell who heads Delmarva Power's crisis management team. "Any one of these storms churning in the Atlantic is a potential threat to the mid-Atlantic region, possibly as early as this weekend."
Delmarva Power is a participant in the 5th annual National Preparedness Month Ready Campaign sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security in a nationwide effort to encourage individuals, families, businesses and communities to prepare for emergencies.
The Ready Campaign and its DHS partner, Citizen Corps, says Americans should take a few simple steps to prepare by having an emergency kit; making a plan, being informed about the different types of emergencies and responses, and getting involved in community emergency preparedness activities.
About The Ready Campaign
February 2008 marked the Ready Campaign's fifth year at the Department of Homeland Security. Launched in 2003 in partnership with The Advertising Council, Ready is designed to educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. It has proven to be one of the most successful campaigns in Ad Council's more than 60-year history.
