Free Energy-Saving Light Bulbs to be Distributed
SALISBURY, Md. -- Approximately 5,000 people are expected to visit the Salisbury Zoo from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 to participate in the zoo's annual Earth Day celebration. The Delmarva Power-sponsored event is designed to increase awareness of local and international conservation and environmental concerns, and give people the tools to take action. "Education without action doesn't really do much," says Mary Seemann, the zoo's marketing and development associate.
Several Delmarva Power employees will be on hand, distributing energy-saving information and demonstrating a specially designed display that shows the energy- and money-saving benefits of using compact fluorescent light bulbs. They will also hand out free compact fluorescent light bulbs, while supplies last.
A multi-question scavenger hunt will teach children more about how the planet works. "It's important to get the kids involved to learn the meaning of Earth Day and it's an activity that they look upon as a fun challenge," says Matt Likovich, Delmarva Power community and communications coordinator for the Bay Region. Children who find the answers to the questions by visiting the various environmental displays will be rewarded with a Delmarva Power goody bag filled with items that have an environmental theme.
For those who want to kick-start their day on April 19, they can participate in the 6th Annual 5K Zoo Stampede at the Salisbury Zoo. The popular running and walking event will begin at 9 a.m. with proceeds benefiting the zoo.

Support of Earth Day is just one way in which Delmarva Power is committed to environmental stewardship. Another signature environmental program for Delmarva Power is the company's long-time sponsorship of Coastal Cleanup. That annual event attracts about 2,500 volunteers who take time on a Saturday morning in September to pick up trash along riverbanks and beaches in Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey.
Delmarva Power, a public utility owned by Pepco Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: POM), provides safe and reliable energy to approximately 500,000 electric delivery customers in Delaware and Maryland and over 118,000 natural gas delivery customers in northern Delaware .
