Delmarva Power to Offer Maryland Residential Customers Discounts on Energy-Efficient Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (Kickoff event in Salisbury, Md)

SALISBURY, Md. - Saving energy and money is now easier for Delmarva Power's Maryland customers thanks to a new program that offers customers discounts when buying compact fluorescent light bulbs at Home Depot.

Delmarva Power customers can purchase the ENERGY STAR © light bulbs at a discount, saving $1.50 on a single bulb and $3 on a multi-pack. To find a participating store near you, please visit our Web site at Delmarva Power's discount compact fluorescent light bulb offer will run for three years.

Delmarva Power officially kicked off the light bulb promotion today at a news conference at MAC Inc., Area Agency on Aging. "We would like our customers to get into the habit of using energy-efficient products like compact fluorescent light bulbs," said John Allen, Vice President, Delmarva Power. "And, to demonstrate our company's commitment to energy efficiency, we are donating approximately 2,000 compact fluorescent light bulbs to MAC Inc., Area Agency on Aging for distribution to senior centers and Meals on Wheels recipients in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Dorchester counties."

Compact fluorescent light bulbs use about 75 percent less electricity than standard incandescent bulbs and have a life span of up to 10 times longer. Replacing a standard light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb can save about $42 in electricity over the lifetime of a bulb.

"We know our customers want affordable energy bills and reliable electric service," said Allen. "Offering discount energy-efficient light bulbs is the first step in Delmarva Power's plan to help customers manage their energy use, improve reliability and help the environment by reducing fossil fuel emissions from power plants."

If every Delmarva Power residential customer in Maryland replaces one 60-watt incandescent bulb with one 15-watt equivalent compact fluorescent light bulb, the company estimates that the electricity savings would be enough to light more than 34,000 homes for one month.

The Maryland Public Service Commission, which regulates the state's utilities, recently approved Delmarva Power's compact fluorescent light bulb program. Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley has a set a goal to reduce per capita electricity consumption in the state by 15 percent by the year 2015.
