Grants support energy-related school projects
SALISBURY, Md. - From field trips to elaborate science projects, many teachers on the Delmarva Peninsula now have some extra money to spend on lessons about energy thanks to Delmarva Power.
The utility company recently awarded $7,842 in grants to support innovative school projects that focus on energy-related issues such as wise energy use, local energy resources, electric safety and several other topics.
The grant money can be used toward purchasing materials, conducting special lessons, taking field trips and implementing special classroom projects that are not typically supported by school funding.
"These teachers are to be commended for seeking ways to provide new academic challenges for their students," said John Allen, vice president, Delmarva Power. "We are pleased to be able to provide some financial assistance to help students broaden their educational experience."
Grant applications were made available last October to teachers in Sussex and Kent counties in Delaware, Cecil and Harford counties in Maryland and in the eastern shore counties of Maryland and Virginia.
