Delmarva Power offers a program to certify master licensed electricians to remove and reinstall electric meters. This program is part of our commitment to improving the customer experience and making it easier for you to perform work on customer equipment. To become certified you will be required to sign an agreement that outlines terms and conditions for removing meters. Signing the agreement also relieves Delmarva Power of any liability in case of injury or damage associated with disconnecting and reconnecting meters. You are required to have a master electrician license and must sign and return the agreement for the state in which you are licensed. Both MD and DE agreements are available by clicking one of the links below.

As a certified electrician, you will be allowed to remove non-bolt in meters only. In addition, only one meter will be authorized to be pulled at multi-unit dwellings/apartment complexes or commercial multi-metered complexes. For all other meter types or to remove multiple meters, you must follow normal procedures for completing the work, which includes contacting us to remove the meter(s). There are no changes to the electrical inspection requirements with this program.
Yes, you must still contact our Distribution Engineering Department (Monday - Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM) to notify us of the meter removal and reinstall dates (if different). If those dates change, you are required to contact us again with updated information.
You must notify the company at least 48 hours in advance.
Delmarva Power will remove the barrel lock before the scheduled meter removal date.
Once the meter is reinstalled, we will inspect and reseal the meter for safety and theft precautions.
Electricians who are not certified must contact Distribution Engineering to schedule an appointment for us to remove the meter.
