Delmarva Power To Issue Estimated $11.2M Refund in Delaware

Utility’s electric and gas customers will receive refund, plus interest
NEWARK , Del. – Delmarva Power’s electric and gas customers in Delaware will get money refunded to them as a credit on an upcoming bill, starting the week of Aug. 15. The refund, which includes interest, stems from when Delmarva Power was permitted to charge higher rates while it awaited the outcome of its electric and gas delivery rate cases. Combined, the total amount owed to customers is an estimated $11.2 million, company officials said.
Delmarva Power’s natural gas customers will receive a refund, which includes interest, starting this week. The gas refund, totaling approximately $1.7 million, will be issued as a one-time bill credit; it stems from five months of higher rates, from February 2011 through June 2011. The refund amount will vary and is based on individual customer usage during the five-month period. Delmarva Power serves approximately 122,000 natural gas customers in Delaware.
Delmarva Power will also issue a refund, which includes interest, to its electric customers in Delaware, starting early September. The electric refund, totaling approximately $9.5 million, will be issued as a one-time bill credit; it stems from nine months of higher rates, from April 2010 through January 2011. The refund amount will vary and is based on individual customer usage. Delmarva Power serves approximately 300,000 electric customers in Delaware.
