Free Energy-Saving Light Bulbs and Tree Seedlings to be Distributed

SALISBURY , Md. Over 6,000 people are expected to visit the Salisbury Zoo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 24 to participate in the zoo’s annual Earth Day celebration. The free, Delmarva Power-sponsored event is designed to show the importance of protecting the environment.

Delmarva Power employees will distribute energy-saving information and operate a display that demonstrates the energy- and money-saving benefits of using compact fluorescent light bulbs. They will also give out free compact fluorescent light bulbs and dogwood tree seedlings, while supplies last.

The event includes educational talks, environmental demonstrations and kids’ activities. Visitors can also bring old electronic equipment to deposit in a recycling station in the zoo parking lot.

“Delmarva Power has been involved in the Earth Day celebration at the Salisbury Zoo since 1990,” said John Allen, Delmarva Power Vice President. “We’re proud to support such a worthwhile event that highlights the need to care for our environment.”

“We’re pleased to have a long-standing partnership with Delmarva Power in coordinating a celebration that promotes an appreciation of wildlife and conservation of our natural resources,” said Joel M. Hamilton, Salisbury Zoo Director.

For those who want to get an energized start to their day on April 24, they can participate in the 8th annual Zoo Stampede 5K Race, a running and walking event that will begin at 9 a.m. at the zoo’s east gate. Proceeds from the event benefit the zoo. For more information on Earth Day and the 5K Zoo Stampede, call 410-860-6880 or 410-548-3188.
