Delmarva Power Reminds Eligible Customers to Call for Energy Assistance, Payment Arrangements

NEWARK , Del. – Delmarva Power reminds residential customers that as the winter heating season progresses, it is important to take control of energy usage.

“We are sensitive to the fact that the extreme cold is already impacting our customers’ bills,” said Gary Stockbridge, President, Delmarva Power Region. “People are using more electricity and natural gas to stay warm."

The good news is that additional federal energy assistance is available to help eligible homeowners and renters meet their energy costs, Stockbridge said.

In response to the growing demands on states and families for much needed relief, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently released nearly $500 million in additional Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding.

LIHEAP helps eligible families pay for home heating, cooling, and other energy costs, as well as helping to weatherize eligible families' homes. The funds are in addition to basic LIHEAP funding that states receive automatically.

For Delaware, it means an additional $1.3 million in LIHEAP funding; for Maryland, it means an additional $6.3 million.

Delmarva Power customers in need of energy assistance and/or a payment arrangement can call the company's Customer Care line at 1-800-375-7117. The Delaware Helpline at 1-800-464-4357 also has information on energy assistance programs available throughout the state.
