Visitors Can Win an Energy Efficiency Kit
SALISBURY , Md. – Approximately 5,000 people are expected to visit the Salisbury Zoo from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 to participate in the zoo’s annual Earth Day celebration. The Delmarva Power-sponsored event is designed to increase awareness about protecting the environment. “Our Earth Day celebration aligns closely with the zoo’s mission to promote an appreciation of wildlife and conservation of natural resources,” said Joel M. Hamilton, Salisbury Zoo Director.
Delmarva Power employees will distribute energy-saving information and demonstrate the energy- and money-saving benefits of using compact fluorescent light bulbs. They will also give visitors a chance to win kits that contain energy efficient products.
The event features entertainment, children’s face painting and interactive educational programs. Children will also have the opportunity to participate in a multi-question, educational, scavenger hunt which will require them to find the answers by visiting over 20 environmental exhibits. Each child’s reward will be a Delmarva Power goody bag filled with items that have an environmental theme. “It’s important to get the kids involved in an activity that helps them appreciate the meaning of Earth Day,” said Matt Likovich of Delmarva Power.
For those who want to get a running start on their day on April 18, they can participate in the 7th Annual 5K Zoo Stampede. The popular running and walking event will begin at 9 a.m. with proceeds benefiting the zoo. For more information on Earth Day and the Zoo Stampede, call 410-860-6880.
