Tree Line USA Award Stems from Commitment in Caring for Urban Forest
NEWARK , Del. – Delmarva Power has been named a Tree Line USA Utility for the tenth year in recognition of its national leadership in caring for trees. The utility was selected for this prestigious award by the Arbor Day Foundation.
The Tree Line USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters. The program recognizes utilities that meet three requirements: provide a program of quality tree care, annual worker training in quality tree care practices and a tree planting and public education program. In meeting these requirements, Delmarva Power has demonstrated a commitment to public education, tree planting and quality tree care, Foundation officials said.
“Across America, people are recognizing and celebrating how vital trees are to our cities and towns,” said John Rosenow, Chief Executive of the Arbor Day Foundations. “Trees help reduce peak demand by conserving energy. They also clean the air and water, increase property value and make our homes more comfortable, livable places.”
“Delmarva Power appreciates this recognition – it’s a testament to the hard work of our employees who are properly trained in quality tree-care practices and committed to helping customers plant appropriate trees near utility lines, not only to provide beautiful trees for the future, but also to protect our environment,” said Gary Stockbridge, President, Delmarva Power Region.
The Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit education organization, is dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship.
Delmarva Power, a public utility owned by Pepco Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: POM), provides safe and reliable energy to nearly 500,000 electric delivery customers in Delaware and Maryland and over 121,000 natural gas delivery customers in northern Delaware .
