Delmarva Power Mails Electrical Safety Information

Friday, May 02, 2008

NEWARK, DE. – Delmarva Power’s Emergency Service Partnership Program recently completed mailing letters with a safety brochure, entitled “Electrical Safety for First Responders,” to more than 140 fire departments throughout its service territory in Maryland and Delaware.

“From an operational perspective, our emergency services responders play a key role in partnering with us to keep the public safe,” said Glenn Moore, Vice President, Delmarva Power’s New Castle Region. “On any given day, underground lines may be struck and/or wires could be down for a variety of reasons. That is why sharing key safety information, which is contained in this brochure, helps us and helps them.”

The brochure offers safety tips and suggested actions emergency services personnel should take when utilities are involved.

“Delmarva Power’s Emergency Services Partnership Program helps provide a way to deliver an important message to first responders,” Moore said. “This material promotes safety and reinforces the message to contact Delmarva Power as soon as possible when our facilities are part of your emergency, so we can dispatch the resources you need to make the situation safe.”

Fire Departments in New Castle County also received safety tips on natural gas emergencies. Another mailing coming soon will be directed to local police departments.
