Good time to prepare for emergencies as storms threaten region
NEWARK, Del. – With the onset of the peak Atlantic hurricane season and September’s designation as National Preparedness Month, Delmarva Power today advised customers to plan ahead for emergencies and avoid last-minute scrambling.
“This is a good time to be prepared,” said Vice President Mike Maxwell who heads Delmarva Power’s crisis management team. “Any one of these storms churning in the Atlantic is a potential threat to the mid-Atlantic region, possibly as early as this weekend.”
Delmarva Power is a participant in the 5th annual National Preparedness Month Ready Campaign sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security in a nationwide effort to encourage individuals, families, businesses and communities to prepare for emergencies.
The Ready Campaign and its DHS partner, Citizen Corps, says Americans should take a few simple steps to prepare by having an emergency kit; making a plan, being informed about the different types of emergencies and responses, and getting involved in community emergency preparedness activities.
