Delmarva Power Donates Special Needs Smoke Alarms To Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office

WILMINGTON , DEL. – Delmarva Power’s Emergency Services Partnership Program is donating smoke alarms for the hard of hearing to assist with fire safety programs in the area. These smoke alarms emit a bright, white strobe light, in addition to an audible alarm, to alert individuals of the presence of smoke. The company donated these alarms to The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office for distribution to those who need them most.
“Delmarva Power’s Emergency Services Partnership Program has always tried to focus on partnering with public safety agencies to address their need for resources that help keep the public safe,” said Vince Jacono, Coordinator of Delmarva Power’s Emergency Services Partnership Program. “This year we ventured into an area that will help address fire safety for people with special needs, especially those with hearing loss or impairment.”
“This donation is special because it helps address a special population that really needs our help. Those with hearing impairments need a smoke alarm that will help notify them of a potential emergency and give them the opportunity to escape from a smoke or fire condition,” said, Willard F. Preston III, Delaware State Fire Marshal. “We not only count on the help of Delmarva Power and others to help support such vital programs as this but we also count on every Delawarean to do their duty and ensure they and their family are protected by a working smoke alarm.”
Overall, Delmarva Power allocated approximately $12,000 to purchase smoke alarms for the deaf or hard of hearing. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office will receive 80 smoke alarms. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office and Maryland State Firemen’s Association will receive 60 smoke alarms and the Delmarva Firemen’s Association will receive 10 of the alarms. The company also donated 200 carbon monoxide alarms to the City of Wilmington in October.
