Delmarva Power Makes Donation to Help Flood Victims
Wednesday, June 28, 2006
Salisbury, Md. – Delmarva Power is donating $5,000 to the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula to help area residents who have had homes or property damaged by this week’s rainstorms and flooding.
The American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula reports that at least 400 homes on the peninsula have been damaged to some extent. In addition, Red Cross officials indicate there could be even more damage reported in the days ahead. That’s because flood water may eventually seep into the floors and walls of homes without actually entering the living space.
“We hope our donation will benefit the American Red Cross assistance programs aimed at helping our affected communities get back on their feet following this week’s devastating storms,” said Gary Stockbridge, President, Delmarva Power.
“We are so grateful for the continued support of Delmarva Power, along with other businesses and corporations, who are working together to help our local communities recover from this major flooding,” said Margi Prueitt, CEO, American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula. “We have a long standing relationship with Delmarva Power whose support enables us to provide immediate disaster relief, 24 hours a day, to those devastated by disasters. We’re calling on other businesses and citizens across the area to find it in their hearts to support the Red Cross and help local families affected by this and other disasters right here at home.”
Meanwhile, Delmarva Power crews continue to work to restore electric service resulting from the inclement weather. “Delmarva Power is committed to delivering safe and reliable power,” said Stockbridge. “We are also urging our customers to be aware of the potential hazards associated with flooding, since electricity and water are a potentially hazardous combination.”
