Wilmington, DE – A group of Glasgow High School seniors were present today as Delmarva Power announced another Energy Know How initiative targeted to education. The company unveiled a pilot program that will help provide scholarships to high school students in New Castle County, Delaware. Delmarva Power is offering $12,000 in scholarships to high school seniors who design, create, and deliver “Energy Saving” messages to help their community understand the importance of energy efficiency. Students who wish to participate can get access information online at www.delamarva.com and click on the Energy Know How logo.
“This program has two benefits,” said Glenn Moore, Vice President of Delmarva Power. “The first demonstrates our commitment to education by supporting students who will be advancing their studies. In addition, this program focuses on a very important need our community has right now. The need to share, understand, and use information about ways we can all use energy wisely, help the environment and save money on our utilities.”
This scholarship program is just one of a number of initiatives that Delmarva Power announced to help customers, and the community at large, cope with the rising cost natural resources that have increased the cost of electricity.
Students and parents can visit Delmarva Power’s website at www.delmarva.com and click on the Energy Know How logo to get details on the program. Enrollment forms are available on the Delmarva Power website and must be completed and submitted by May 31, 2006, in order for students to qualify for the scholarships. Final judging will take place in July and scholarships will be sent directly to post secondary schools. Delmarva Power will distribute the $12,000 total with an award of $4,000 to one winner and $2,000 to four runners up.
