Welcome to this section of our Web site, where we focus on meeting our customers’ energy needs with clean, renewable resources. Delmarva Power recognizes that wind energy is a vital part of our energy future. We are committed to investing wisely in wind energy as well as other forms of energy, which are clean and reliable.

A great deal of information has been circulating in Delaware about wind energy. And some of that information has mischaracterized the company’s position on wind energy. Hopefully, the information you’ll find in this section will provide you with a clear understanding of how we plan to meet the future energy needs of our Delaware customers.   

The future is not far off. That is why we are seeking competitive bids from regional wind developers interested in helping us achieve Delaware’s aggressive renewable energy goals. We believe the results of this bid process will provide low-cost, environmentally-friendly wind energy to our customers for years to come. 

We are pursuing this competitive bid process for wind energy because we want to ensure we get our customers the lowest price possible for renewable energy.

There is no doubt that we need to explore and invest in alternative forms of energy given today’s environmental challenges and the need to become less dependent on foreign oil. That is why we are committed to seeking low-cost, environmentally-friendly solutions for our customers.

The Facts

  • Delmarva Power has been a strong supporter of the state’s renewable energy goals

  • This is not a debate about using coal, gas or oil versus green alternatives – it is about what green alternatives we select.

  • Delmarva Power is not against wind – we were the first to recommend land based wind to meet our renewable goals in 2006.

  • The costs for this project would be paid by our customers – this is not about protecting the company – it is about protecting the customers we serve.

  • Although it is true we have not supported the Bluewater Wind proposal, we have negotiated in good faith, as attested to by the independent observer appointed by the State.
