Delmarva Power Receives Wind Power
Delmarva Power recently received its first megawatt of wind power when one of its land-based wind projects – Armenia Mountain – generated about 36 total megawatts in a day. Under its 15-year contract with the wind farm developer – Arlington, Va.-based AES Wind Generation – Delmarva gets half of the mega-wattage output and related wind renewable energy credits (RECs).
The initial delivery of wind power is ahead of schedule for the wind farm, which is expected to be fully operational by January 2010, producing up to 100.5 megawatts, or enough energy to power 45,000 homes. At capacity output, Delmarva Power will receive 50 megawatts of wind power from the 67-turbine farm, located near Troy, Pennsylvania.
“This is the first of four wind power commitments Delmarva Power has entered into on behalf of its Delaware customers,” said Gary Stockbridge, President, Delmarva Power Region. “We’re excited about playing such a vital role in bringing wind power to the region and the economic boon it’s created as well.”
AES officials have said there are about 250 people employed on the multimillion dollar project.
